Meet Our Physicians
World Class Retina Specialists
Our physicians are specialized in the treatment of diseases affecting the retina and vitreous.
Welcome to Retina Consultants San Diego (RCSD). Our goal is to provide the highest quality care for patients with medical and surgical retinal diseases.
RCSD was founded in 1979 by Paul Tornambe who built a nationally-recognized practice focused upon providing excellent, evidence-based, and compassionate care. We strive to live up to the highest standards and are honored to have gained the trust of our patients and referring doctors.
Our physicians are specialized in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases affecting the retina and vitreous. All are board certified and have completed an additional two-year fellowship in Vitreoretinal Surgery. Our doctors have trained at top national academic centers, including the Wills Eye Hospital, Duke Eye Center, UCLA Jules Stein Eye Institute, USC Doheny Eye Institute, Stanford Byers Eye Institute, UPenn Scheie Eye Institute, and Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Institute. Our team is nationally and locally recognized, actively participates in leadership positions in national societies, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Retina Specialists, and the Retina Society, and serves as the Chief of ophthalmology at local hospitals. We are honored to be recognized as Best Doctors in San Diego and nationally.
We strive to advance our field, by participating in basic research and numerous clinical trials which give our patients early access to next generation medications and treatment options. We also pride ourselves in community outreach and have provided free care to those who cannot afford it for decades by working with wonderful organizations like the San Diego Medical Society, Champions for Health and Médecins sans Frontières (MSF) Doctors Without Borders.
We are humbled that you have chosen to entrust us with your care. We promise to work with you to ensure that we identify and explain the best treatment options for you to preserve, and even improve, your vision.
